Marijuana Information

Marijuana information is made available on this site on behalf of Spencer Recovery Centers who believes that marijuana information can aid in recovery from addiction. Marijuana information is useful but addiction is a disease and needs to be treated by a recovery center. Many people know marijuana information but don't understand that addiction to pot, weed, grass and the herb can become a disease of dependence and tolerance. This page goes beyond smoking joints, blunts and bongs, beyond getting the munchies and getting paranoid and discusses marijuana information from a recovery viewpoint. The purpose is to use marijuana information to get people into treatment so that they can stop smoking pot if they wish.

According to the National Household Survey on Drug Abuse, marijuana is Americas most widely used illegal drug. Nearly 40% the population over the age of 12 has tried pot at least once in their lives and is frequently used by teenagers and young adults. Use of marijuana has increased this last decade and nearly half of all current high school students in the 12th grade have tried pot according to marijuana information. This is of grave concern since marijuana can stunt the emotional, physical and mental development of adolescents.

Marijuana is usually smoked but can also be eaten to feel its effects. Rolled up like a cigarette called a joint, in a pipe or from a water pipe called a bong, all effectively deliver smoke straight to the lungs. The active ingredient of marijuana is THC (delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol) which gets into the bloodstream through the lungs and into the brain. The brains reward system is triggered giving the user a euphoric pleasurable feeling but at the same time hampering thought, concentration and perception of time.

The effects are felt right away and can last up to 4 hours. THC affects the same part of the brain that controls memory and focus. Some people can become paranoid on pot and become very anxious. More marijuana information about side effects include the following:

Bloodshot eyes
Faster heartbeat
Sensations become more intense
Hunger may be felt
Dry mouth
Fear
Loss of control
Loss of memory
Loss of coordination
Reaction time slowed
Addiction

Marijuana information reveals that chronic use of pot can lead to respiratory problems, chest pains and a phlegm filled cough. Cancer of the lungs is also linked to marijuana information because the unfiltered pot smoke has more carcinogens than even cigarettes.

If you or a loved one smokes a lot of pot then you already know the marijuana information that the short-term memory of the user can be limited and judgment impaired. Addiction is also a very real consequence that is evident when the user is unable to stop on his or her own. The body adapts to the presence of marijuana and becomes use to it, in fact requires it to feel pleasure thus continuing use.
